Today, government organizations across the country are making commitments to keep the public informed by publishing data freely online. By making information readily available and searchable, citizens can stay better informed of the decision-making process and its outcomes, and in turn, government organizations become more transparent.
For years Granicus has promoted the availability of public meetings and records online. We’ve helped hundreds of organizations present public information in a more organized manner while making that content keyword searchable. We built our Advanced Search tool to help citizens filter government meeting data through a refined search query on the organization’s website. Residents can now choose to include or exclude specific words or phrases and even select a date range for their search. Our goal is to improve the search of public records and make the retrieval of government data as seamless as possible.
Granicus customers in the Government Transparency Suite can rely on a robust search engine to provide residents with the information they need. All search results are pulled from the organization’s public meeting data stored in the Granicus system.
Reduce public inquiries – provide better access to public meetings and records
Empower residents to find the information they need through a self-service portal of public meeting and records data on your website. By selecting the “Advanced Search” link located next to the search box, residents can easily refine their search to only the terms they indicate.

Refine search criteria and retrieve only the information needed
Advanced Search allows the public to more accurately define their search criteria. When searching, a citizen can choose to search on one or more of the following:
- Agenda items
- Meeting notes
- Actions:
- Motions
- Votes
- Closed Captions
Narrow their search further by:
- Typing keywords, ordinances or resolutions
- Typing an exact phrase
- Choosing to include or exclude specific words
- Selecting a date range

Rely on accurate search results
Granicus' new search architecture produces faster, more reliable results. Search across public meeting archives – meeting or event data including agendas, minutes, notes, motions, votes and captions. When using the search engine, residents will receive links to specific points in meetings in which the discussion of the searched word(s) occurred or links to the beginning of the videos in which the searched word(s) occurred.
